ANNUAL REPORT 2012 - 2013


Chief Guest for today’s function, Mr. J.Prabhakara Rao, Superindent of police, Krishna district, Chairman Gudivada Ramachandra Rao garu,Secretary, Meher Baba Garu, Correspondent Kumar babu garu, Executive directors, HODs, Members of the teaching faculty, Management & supporting staff, my dear students, members of the press and other media, Ladies & Gentlemen,

As the Principal of this college I am happy to present the Annual Report of the college for the academic year 2012 – 2013. This academic year also there has been a steady improvement in all areas including infrastructure, academics, extra-curricular activities and placement.

To promote higher education in rural India, Sri Vasavi Educational Society under the sagacious chairmanship of Gudivada Ramachandra Rao garu, established “Sri Vasavi Institute of Engineering and Technology” in the year 2008. In the first year, we had intake of 240 students with four branches CSE, ECE, EEE and IT.

Branch wise, present intake is B.Tech( CSE-120, ECE-120, EEE-60, Civil-60 and Mechanical-60) with a total intake of 420. M.Tech(VLSI Systems Design)-18, M.Tech(CSE)-18 with a total intake of 36. Diploma in Mech-60 and ECE-60.


INFRASTRUCTURE


Coming to infrastructure development, the second floor of the First year block is nearing completion and with that total built up area nearing to 16104 sq. meters. The newly built kasturbha Gandhi women’s Hostel was inaugurated by his excellency Dr.K.Rosaiah, Governor of Tamilnadu on 30th June 2012. Cement Concrete approach roads were completed in the campus.

State of the art laboratories and workshops have been set up in all the departments and the college has obtained its ISO certification in 2008 itself and recertified in this year.

IN THE ACADEMIC ARENA


There has been a steady progress in the academic pursuits of the college and of the colleges that were started along with us in 2008 we are among the top with respect to all round growth and development.

The faculty strength at present is 98. As part of the quality improvement programme nine of the faculties are undergoing Master’s and five undergoing Doctoral programmes in various institutions. The supporting staff strength is now 33 and other staff such as ministerial security etc., total 70 on the campus. Around 20 papers were published by faculty in various Journals of repute and 15 papers were presented at various international and National Conferences organized by reputed organizations and universities. Fifteen faculty members attended various faculty development programmes and workshops.

The students’ performance in the University Examinations has shown marginal improvement during the year.


CO-CURRICULAR AND EXTRA CURRICCULAR ACTIVITIES


In addition to the above our students participated in various paper presentations, Poster presentations in other colleges and also won prizes. Around 260 students participated in paper presentations and 200 students in poster presentation while 25 students participated in technical exhibition. In addition to this eminent people from government and private sector visited the college and shared their experiences to promote professionalism amongst the youngsters. In the college SAPIENCE’12 organized professionally in a disciplined manner on 28th & 29th December, 2012. We conducted paper presentation, poster presentation, Kaun Banega Technopati, Technical Exhibition for 5 Engineering Disciplines (Civil, EEE, Mech, ECE & CSE) and Short film on Engineering Education, it is a common event for all disciplines.



We have received 520 papers from various Engineering Colleges in and around Andhra Pradesh.
We got enormous response from all the selected participants and totally 309 students belongs to22EngineeringCollegeswereparticipated. Sri M.V. Raja Sekhar, AGM Bharat Electronics Limited, is the Chief Guest for inaugural function. Symposium proceeding CD was released by the Chief Guest and He delivered a motivational speech covering the various engineering branches about latest technological developments. He explained all the electronic gadgets and optical sensors available in market are also developed in BEL for defense.


On 28th Dec, 2012 Paper Presentation and Technical Exhibition were conducted & on 29th Dec, 2012 Poster Presentation, Kaun Banega Technopati and Short film on Engineering Education wereconducted.


Sri Ch. Durga Prasad Leader – Global Resource Management, Mahindra Satyam is the Chief Guest for Valedictory Function. College News Letter VIBES was released by the Chief Guest. He presented in a well versed manner about what a corporate industry expecting from a Fresh Engineering Graduate. He highlighted the importance of innovative thinking of a Young Engineers. For all the winners Mementos and Prize amounts
(for First Prize – 2000, Second Prize – 1500 & Third Prize – 1000) are distributed.


LIBRARY


• Central library containing 14,500 volumes with Special reference section. It is equipped with 100 International (including e-Journals) and 400 National (including e-Journals).

• To improve the technical knowledge, established digital library and subscribed NPTEL (National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning).

• To improve communication and soft skills using the GLOBARENA Software is available in the digital Library.

PLACEMENT & TRAINING


A great deal of emphasis is laid on Training & Placement activities starting from the entry year itself. As part of the Industry Institute Initiative a full fledged placement and training cell lead by two faculty at present have been functioning on the campus since its inception. Thanks to the initiatives of the Management for their willful cooperation.


In the first year English language training is imparted to the students along with testing in quantitative and mathematics skills. In the second year English speaking including conversation, dialogue, group discussion and public speaking skills are imparted. In the third and fourth years training in communication skills, attitudinal change and interview skills development is emphasized together with preparation and writing of resume and cover letter.
Industrial visits and guest lectures are arranged every semester for every class to give students practical exposure and improve their confidence levels. . Departments arranged 12 industrial visits and 10 guest lectures in this year. Vuyyur Sugar factory and small scale industries at Vijayawada Auto Nagar etc., Eminent personalities from IIT,s, Universities, industries like BEL, Effectronics and Microsoft delivered lectures in this year. Two workshops were organized by CSE department and one workshop was organized by Mechanical department.

On-Campus,and Off-Campus interviews are arranged for final year students of the undergraduate programmes. As on date 42 students are placed in various companies like Impelsys, GNG Group, Intarvo Technologies, Analytical Technologies and Elsner Technologies etc., While some more are in pipe line both in the software & core sectors. Last year 85% of eligible students got placement in the campus.


NSS ACTIVITIES


Our college has NSS unit to develop National Consciousness and a sense of Social Responsibility among the students. Sri P. Meher kumar is the programme officer. Mr. R. Bala sai and Mr. Ch. Sarath Chandra are the student leaders.

During this year in addition to the regular activities of clean and green and celebration of important days our NSS unit organized a special camp for a period of one week. The special camp was inaugurated by Sri Gudiwada Ramachandra Rao, Chairman SVIET at Z.P. High School, Munjuluru and Presented one Steel Almarah to the school. During the camp NSS volunteers organized Rallies to create awareness among the public on different social evils and to educate the public about the need of saving electricity and water. Conducted carrier guidance to the students of different schools, participated in pulse polio immunization, organized blood grouping and blood donation camp, organized health checkup camp at munjuluru village, visited old age home at manginapudi carried out cleaning of the area and distributed toilet goods kit to all inmates of the home. Organized games among the pupil of Z.P. High School, Munjuluru and distributed the prizes.


SPORTS

Physical Education is an essential ingredient to tap a student’s full potential. Two Physical Directors look after the day-to-day sports activities on the campus. Our students also participate in Zonal and University tournaments and athletic meets. This year

1. JNTUK Inter-Collegiate Weight Lifting, Power Lifting and Best Body Physique (Men) Tournament Cum Selection Trails held at LRBRC, Mylavaram on 1st - 2nd Feb 2013. In this tournament our students participated and occupied 2nd & 3rd places.

a) Mr.R.Venugopal, III ECE – 2nd Place in Power Lifting & 3rd Place in Weight Lifting

b) Mr. K.Pavan Kumar, III Mech – 2nd Place in Best Physique & 3rd Place in Weight Lifting


2. Our College Students Participation in Games & Sports of JNTUK such as Badmintion, Volley Ball & Kabaddi of Zone – C, Inter-Collegiate Tournament 2013

3. Our College Students Participated in this year, District Level & State Level Tournaments such as Mopidevi District Level Cricket Tournament, Vignan Mahosthav 2013 Volley Ball Tournament, M.V.R.Cricket Tourney District Level and Eenadu Campion Cricket 2012 State Level Tournament

Games & Sports events in our college premises conducted.

Microsoft I-Spark Centre


> Sri Chakrapani GK, General Manager Microsoft, visited our campus on 15th June, 2012 for the interactive session conducted on Microsoft Technologies. He impressed by the interactions that were done by the students, the GM presented KINECT device worth Rs/- 10,000 as a token of appreciation. The GM and Rural Director Sri Raj Kataria acknowledged the talent of Mr. K.Venkatesh of IV CSE and presented him a Nokia Lumina windows phone for his creative effort in developing windows phone applications.


> SVIETians sharing Guinness World Record with Microsoft on 21st and 22nd September, 2012. It’s a great achievement to notice that, 60 members of SVIET attended and participated in the app fest and submitted their apps’ at APP Excellence Lab (AEL) of Microsoft.

> Mr. K.Venkatesh, IV B.Tech CSE has participated in Microsoft I-Unlock joy competition and won a Tech-Ed Pass and E-Certificate for publishing windows phone 7 & Windows 8 Apps in to the windows phone market place & Windows store. He is the only student from Krishna district to achieve this among the 1043 winners national wide.

> Miss.G.D.Vijaya Lakshmi, IV B.Tech CSE has participated in Microsoft Iunlock joy competition and won a Merit Certificate for publishing windows phone 7 Apps in to the windows phone market place.

> Miss.G.D.Vijaya Lakshmi, K.Venkatesh of IV CSE and Mr.M.M.Naresh Kumar, P.Rishi Chand of III CSE represented from our college as Microsoft Student Partners for the academic year 2012-2013.

> Conducted one day Hands on Workshop on “Windows AZURE” by Microsoft Academic experts on 23rd Feb 2013.


> By Developing 86 Windows phone 7 Apps , 60 Windows 8 Apps and 15 Cloud Computing applications, our students Participated in National wide “I UNLOCK JOY” competition and International wide “IMAGINE CUP” competition conducted by Microsoft.


CONCLUSION


On behalf of the staff and students and on my own behalf, my prayers to the almighty for showering his blessings on us throughout. I thank the Management for the continuous support, the Founder for gracing the campus during this year and for the total support given by our chairperson and the Secretary & Correspondent and for their keen interest in the day-to-day activities.

I thank the faculty, the management and supporting staff for their co-operation and I seek their continued support in the future. Let us all strive and work together to build up this Institution into a model Engineering College of repute.
